The Art of Zakhrafa

Centuries of Mastery in Every Detail

Damascene Marquetry is not a craft that can be rushed. Each piece requires weeks, sometimes months, of meticulous work. Our artisans begin with carefully selected woods—walnut for its rich, warm tones; olive for its distinctive grain; lemon for its pale lustre; rosewood for depth and contrast.

These woods are cut into impossibly thin strips, then shaped and fitted together like a three-dimensional puzzle. Mother of pearl, hand-cut and polished, is inlaid piece by tiny piece to create patterns that have adorned palaces and treasuries for centuries.

No paint touches our pieces. The intricate geometric designs you see are created purely through the natural colours of different woods, fitted together with such precision that the joins are nearly invisible. This is the hallmark of true Zakhrafa—a testament to skill honed over lifetimes.

The result is not simply a decorative object, but a tangible connection to one of humanity's great artistic traditions.
